Who was "unlucky" in 2007 →
When you’re drafting, look at guys towards the bottom of the list.  These are players that should be hitting for higher averages and may be undervalued.  Wish I had this earlier.

Trying out Lijit search
Lijit may be overkill for Tumblr.  I haven’t been able to fit it in exactly where I would like to but I do like the idea having search on the blog.  It doesn’t search comments which I would like it to, but beyond that the search results seem relevant and fast. In addition to search, Lijit offers me analytics on how people are using my blog.  I’ll give it a few days until I have...

2008 MLB All Bust Team
I just finished up my first MLB fantasy draft and have been thinking about overvalued players.  Here is my all bust team.  Just hitters. C - Jorge Posada - Last Season was amazing, but completely uncharacteristic of his entire career.  1B - Carlos Pena - Last years stats came out of no where, particularly the 46 HR’s.  He was drafted late in my league over the weekend; I think most people...

Embed Youtube videos in comments
Gawker is now allowing video to be embedded in comments as seen here on Deadspin.  I like the idea of videos in all forms of messaging.  Can you imagine ESPN or CBS allowing this? Chalq does.

What's 'the get down guy'?
As you can tell I have a bit of a baseball obsession.  My first choice for a name was “the tools of ignorance”, which is what people call the catcher’s equipment.  The get down guy is a term I came up with at University of Texas baseball games when I was four or five.  I wanted to be a catcher, or the get down guy.

2007 MLB Player Projections Pt. 1
We’ve decided to evaluate the 2007 MLB player projections of 4 sources that would be available for CHALQ’s use.  The systems are: Marcel Bill James (pay) ZIPS Rotoworld (pay) We’re trying to find out who projected closest to the actual 2007 results so we can choose a system for CHALQ.  To do this we are running an analysis similar to one Baseball Prospectus conducted in...

USV Hiring
Union Square Ventures is hiring a new analyst.  I left them my Tumblr as my web presence. Hopefully we’ll have some more visitors here in the next few days, and maybe you’ll have someone to talk with in the comments Taylor. I’ve also added links to my profiles on LinkedIn and Facebook.

AOL Fanhouse/Blog Networks
I am struggling to figure out why people consider sites like AOL Fanhouse any different from CBS Sportsline or ESPN stories.  Fanhouse writers are paid by AOL, and they write sports columns.  You can comment on their stories (just like CBS Sportsline and most ESPN stories).  So what exactly is the difference here?  Call it a blog and expect lower quality content?  Shorter more frequent posts?  ...

Why the NL is losing All Star games
As stupid as the policy is, the All Star game in Major League Baseball actual does matter.  Home field advantage in the World Series is a huge advantage, and a very silly reward for such a silly game.  There are many reasons the NL hasn’t won an All Star game since July 9, 1996.  I’ll take a unscientific, fairly obvious stab at why they lost last years. NL starting outfield in 2007: ...

Whirlwind
wyomingirl: It is amazing to me how much some people know about policy issues and their legislative process.  (I guess I can be a little cynical about how much attention lay citizens pay to the process.)  Mom and I were with a friend of hers at a coffee shop in Riverton and we sat down and talked to a group of older gentlemen.  One of them started running the numbers on several sales and...

Fantasy Baseball: My current top 10 position...
If I were to draft today, this is how I would rank the top 10 position players.  Alex Rodriguez * Jose Reyes Albert Pujols Hanley Ramirez Chase Utley Miguel Cabrera * Matt Holliday David Wright Ryan Howard Jimmy Rollins My biggest difficulty is with Rollins, Howard, Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun.  I went with experience.  I still believe Fielder is going to have a monster season. ...
