Tokyo Police Club
I’ve spent tonight listening to this album that I’ve seen on many people’s most listened to lists (last.fm feed to tumblr) and as a top blogged band on hypem.
I’m no music critic, but I’m having difficulty making it through the album. Anyone have specific track suggestions? All the songs seem to be carried by the drummer, and the lead singer isn’t doing it...
George Will's questions for Obama
George Will brings up some excellent questions that Obama should answer. I’d like to see Will as a moderator for a debate in the general election.
He’s got some for McCain coming soon. Looking forward to it.

Just heard this song on a Dodge commercial. I was never a big Grandaddy fan so it’s no suprise I missed this.

Totally shady company sending me fake bills for one of the domian names I own. Can you imagine answering people when they ask you “What do you do?”, saying that you scam people through sleazy mail schemes?

Metcalfe's Law and fantasy sports
First, Metcalfe’s Law is a pretty simple idea: The value of a network is equal to the square of the number of nodes in that network. The “value” is essentially the number of connections there are as a result of the increase of nodes.
An example is telephones. One telephone is basically worthless when there are no other telephones. If there are two telephones the value of...

Austin City Limits 2008 Lineup →
Going to try and make it down this year for ACL (I’ve missed the past 2). The lineup looks awesome as usual. Hopefully it isn’t so dry this year.
joelaz:
This just in… ACL announced the lineup for September 26-28th. If you haven’t been, it’s a great music fest. Hot as hell that time of year, but well worth the sweat.
This blog will be well worth it...
if Taylor gets hooked on Wilco. I’ve given him about 12 songs; at least one song from each album.
That would have been perfect for a muxtape right? I always forget to use it.
The Song List:
Too Far Apart - A.M.
Far Far Away - Being There
Don’t Forget the Flowers - Being There
Outtasite (Outtamind) - Being There
Can’t Stand It - Summerteeth

Learning html
I know very very basic html. I’ve only used it to add a bit of custom code to this blog and for classes at SMU. Trying to dive a bit deeper. My ultimate goal is to get a basic understanding of html, java, and css to start out with. If anyone knows a good html editor to use let me know.
Expanding my network
This is an invitation to anyone that stumbles across this blog to chat. I want to meet people who’d like to talk about start ups, venture capital, fantasy sports, and your projects. Are you a start up employee? CEO? CTO? VC? Developer? In business dev, content acquisition, marketing with a web based company? I’d like to talk with you.

Don't trade, you might lose →
This only holds true if you are the sucker in the trade. My rule of thumb is the big names are big names for a reason. So:
Don’t trade Ortiz just because he is in a 10 game slump. He has finished in the top 10 fantasy players 2 seasons in a row.
Trade Corey Patterson if you can get value for him. He gets hurt nearly every year and has not been fantasy relevant in the past 3...

Seriously, Stop it
I should now be concerned about the Olympic Torch. I’d get worked up over this but I am still too mad about flower miles and cow farts to give this the proper worry time.
Just got my copy of the 2008 Baseball Prospectus
I tried my fantasy baseball draft this year with out it. Bad decision. The projections I did and systems I used are not as useful as PECOTA. It is the gold standard.
I pay attention to too many sources for Fantasy Baseball draft advice. I am too scattered and take in too many different opinions. I’ve decided that in the future I’ll look at:

Q&A with Bill James
From the Freakonomics Blog:
Q: Has looking at the numbers prevented you from actually just enjoying a summer day at the ballpark? Have we all forgotten the randomness of human ballplayers? By reducing players to just their numbers can we lose sight of the intangibles such as teamwork, friendships, and desire.
A: Does looking at pretty women prevent one from experiencing love? Life is...
The Supreme Court has a fantasy baseball league
Honestly, it does. And apparently the fact that several of the members of the court participate in a fantasy baseball league caused those members to remove themselves from hearing the case. Crazy.
I believe fantasy baseball creates and retains fans for the MLB. I have been in a fairly serious and competitive league for about 5 years now and know that previous to playing fantasy, at least 3...
