How Twitter Could Be Worth A Billion In A Year →
innonate:
Twitter’s not going to make its money selling ads. How will they make it big? Peer-to-peer mobile payments.
Given Twitter’s technical issues I think it would be a tough sell to get people to trust them with a peer-to-peer mobile payment product. It is a good idea though, and could be massively profitable.

I don’t think they will miss a beat with AJ taking over as editor. I will not miss hearing about the St. Louis Cardinals everyday during the baseball season. We will miss the “royal we”. That is I will miss it. Whatever.
1880 Census Questions
My mom has been buiding our family tree on Geni and has ramped up the research this summer. She’s mapped out lines to 1689 in Ulster, Ireland (via Scotland), 1686 in Virginia, and 1599 in France.
Apparently ancestry.com has been a good source for my mom during this project. My favorite thing she found there could be the census questions from 1880:
Name:Wm. R. Cole
Home in 1880: Dallas,...

Not all help is good help.
wyomingirl:
People have been telling me for months, “Annaliese you should keep blogging.” I always say I’ll try but when it comes right down to it I don’t. I feel like a have a lot of good reasons for keeping my thoughts a little closer to the vest. I don’t want to offend anybody unnecessarily and I do communications for the campaign so I worry about the musings on...

The word I have a problem with in the title is still
Really? My problem word is Drinking. Without that the title reads fine.
Social Media in D.C.
I thought Robert Scoble’s recent post from D.C. was really cool. Annaliese has the Cynthia Lummis campaign up on tumblr, twitter, facebook, and flickr. They also have a really nice website.
Some of the services are more usefull than others (I think the Lummis campaign prefers twitter to anything else) and it is cool to get several accounts about what the campaign is doing (twitter),...
The Best Criminals Have a Dad
I like this part from Taranto’s Best of the Web today:
The Chicago Defender notes a curious claim by Barack Obama in his Father’s Day speech:
“We know that more than half of all Black children live in single-parent households. We know the statistics—that children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more...
Girl Talk adopts the Radiohead model...sort of.
Girl Talk has a new album out and is selling it using the “pay what you want” model. One of the interesting kickers is if you chose to pay $10 or more you get to download the MP3s and receive the CD (once it comes out) in the mail. That’s a pretty sweet deal; get the album for yourself on iTunes and send the CD to a friend.
I haven’t heard any of the new songs yet...

Would You Pay $715 for $630 in Cash?
joelaz:
There is a buy-it-now listing on eBay today where the seller is offering $630 in cash, which he will send electronically to the buyer through PayPal. The current price for this listing is $715. Why would someone pay $715 for $630 in cash? Well, you may have heard that Microsoft recently launched a ridiculous “cash back” promotion in the hopes of bribing Google customers to switch to...
Financial Startups in New York
I’ve been thinking about the discussion going on on the NextNY site about financial startups in New York. If you’re working on a project in this area and find yourself here, I’d like to chat.

Worst Fantasy Sports Product Ever
I’m surprised that it comes from Yahoo! because usually they have simple, functioning, no hastle fantasy games. Not for the Euro 2008 product.
Creating a team was easy enough. Creating a league, joining a league, and telling others how to join my league was also not too bad (even though they could use an internal messaging system!).
The catch? Once you create a team and join a league you...
Time Warner Cable is Horrible
Watching the NBA Finals in HD is impossible because of the jumpy feed from Time Warner Cable. My HD is always like this. I hope Verizon Fios makes it to the East Village before I move.

Looking for any video of the conference, particularly this demo.
This is no coincidence...right?
I have never received any telemarketing phone calls on my cell phone. I’ve had the same number for close to 10 years without it being compromised and without any incidents.
Today Annaliese and I were texting each other about a possible vacation. We sent maybe 10 texts giving specific locations of places we wanted to go. After the 10th I was called from an unknown number. I picked it up...
Amazon.com
It’s been down for at least 20 minutes here. Is this normal maintenance I never noticed? Not working for any of my co-workers either. It’s 1:55 PM EST.
Update: I wanted to Twitter this but…you know.
Big Apple BBQ in Madison Square Park!
If you live in NY you can’t miss this. I’ll be piling my plate up with some brisket from the Salt Lick, some jalepeno coleslaw from Baker’s Ribs, and a pulled pork sandwich from Big Bob Gibson BBQ.
I also plan on getting the meat sweats, regretting the second serviing of brisket, considering consulting a doctor, and going back on Sunday.

We're not technically in a recession
Good cartoon I saw on The Big Picture. But really…what’s the point of having a definition for ‘recession’ if any time the economy starts to suck people say we’re in a recession? Technically matters.
