SEC dominance over?
The Big 12 has 3 teams in the top 5 of the current AP rankings and in the ESPN Power Rankings. The SEC has 2. The Big 12 also has 4 teams in the top 10 to the SEC’s 3. Both have 6 in the top 25.
I’m not sure if the Big 12 has replaced the SEC as the top conference in college football just yet, but the SEC is no longer the clear top conference. At the very least, I hope this puts an...

The next step in Fantasy Sports
I was reading an article from Bill Simmons this morning talking about Fantasy Football and how far it has come. It stirred up some feelings about CHALQ (bad) and my first fantasy season (good). My first season playing was in 1998 on Exit42.com. I had the first pick and took a rookie QB, Peyton Manning. My dad, well he took Ryan Leaf. Needless to say we didn’t understand how fantasy...

It’s awful looking out my apt window at the line for the KOL concert and know I won’t be there tonight.

Threaded Comments
Deadspin comment obudsman Rob Iracane once wrote about the commenting comedy pyramid. Good luck building comedy pyramids in real time with threaded comments. One more reason to quit reading the equivalent of US Weekly for sports.

This actually surprised me. Growing up, all the teams I was on coached by a prick were awful. Can’t believe a guy like this was able to string together back to back Super Bowls.

We may well be going through a 50-year storm in the financial markets. Lots of folks are talking about unprecedented events in the housing market and about the risks of financial innovation such as Credit Default Swaps. With so much change it may well seem like all the old rules are out, but at the heart of Lehman’s demise is a much much older killer - leverage. Leverage...

Boring and Lame
Gotta unfollow all of the Obama crazies that clog up my dashboard. You know, the Obama 100% right 100% of the time no matter what, and McSame is a LOSER and Palin is downright SCARY. Yeah, those guys.
I’d also unfollow the McCain (and Palin) crazies, but they don’t have blogs on Tumblr. Thank God.
I wouldn’t mind reading reasonable human beings posts about either Obama or...
The State of Absaroka
I love obscure stories in history like this one about Absaroka.
It reminded me about how much fun I had in one of my history classes in Taos, NM when I learned that Texas attempted to invade Sante Fe shortly after it gained independence from Mexico.
Testing, 1 2 3, Testing in the Cloud
continuations:
Most of the companies in the USV portfolio started out quite small. Some even with just a single server, many with a couple of web servers and a single DB server. At that stage testing is straightforward. In fact developers generally have a complete setup on their laptops and stuff that works there is highly likely to work in production. Fast forward a year or two (in some cases...
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Rules
The reason some leagues like to incorporate waiver wire rules for free agent players is to create parity in the league. Basically, it gives teams two things: time and priority.
Generally the waiver priority order is set by reversing the draft order. It gives priority to the team with that began with the biggest disadvantage, the team with the last pick. The advantage to being at the top of the...
