Tumblr vs. a Social Network
I have profiles on facebook, linkedin, and a few other social networks. I spend almost no time on any of them. I am starting to see my tumblr as my social profile rather than my blog.
Facebook and the like serve a purpose to keep me in touch with friends, find out what they are doing, and letting others know what I am up to. I do this through a series of wall posts, personal messages, friending, groups, etc…
While this is good for others wanting to get in touch with me, it creates a lot more work on my end to get in touch with them. I would much rather just ‘follow’ them on tumblr and have their updates added to my dashboard feed. Others could do the same with thegetdownguy. I’ll reblog interesting things my friends/people I follow post etc…
Obviously this is not apples to apples, but the way I want to interact with people online is better served through Tumblr than a traditional social network.
I want people to have comments on Tumblr though. I added Disqus to my blog, hopefuly Tumblr will have an internal solution soon.
