AOL Fanhouse/Blog Networks

I am struggling to figure out why people consider sites like AOL Fanhouse any different from CBS Sportsline or ESPN stories.  Fanhouse writers are paid by AOL, and they write sports columns.  You can comment on their stories (just like CBS Sportsline and most ESPN stories).

So what exactly is the difference here?  Call it a blog and expect lower quality content?  Shorter more frequent posts?   How is Deadspin different from ESPN’s Bill Simmons columns?
