I’ve noticed this video pop up on a few blogs I follow and got to watching it last night with my brother.  When we were first starting CHALQ we looked at some other Jobs NEXT pitch videos for inspiration on clearly articulating a product or goal.  We got to talking about this video and noticed:

  1. At just about the same time Steve Jobs is recording this video there is a British scientist named Tim Berners-Lee creating the world wide web on a Nextcube desktop.
  2. Same as it ever was.  Jobs focused on speeding up the time it takes to build custom apps.  Ruby on Rails?
  3. Defining a new market.   He points out that they were looking for the sweet spot between users of PCs and Macs and the scientific community on Sun systems.  Web 2.0 companies are going through this same process.  They either have a consumer app they want to beef up to appeal to the professional market, or they have an app operating in a fringe market that they want to make more appealing to casual users.

It’s a two parter.  Definitely worth watching the whole thing.
